Arizona State will play its home baseball games at Phoenix Municipal Stadium beginning in 2015.
Phoenix and ASU officials announced the move Tuesday. The state Board of Regents approved a 25-year lease with the city in February.
The Sun Devils have played their home games at 4,000-seat Packard Stadium on the Tempe campus since late in the 1974 season. School officials say it will cost up to $25 million to renovate or rebuild Packard.
ASU played selected home games at 8,000-seat Phoenix Muni in the 1960s and early 1970s. Phoenix Muni is located about three miles from ASU’s campus and has been the spring training home of the Oakland Athletics since 1982. The A’s are moving into the Chicago Cubs’ old spring training park in Mesa in 2015, while the Cubs open their own new facility, also in Mesa, next year.
