The Diamondbacks acquired left-handed reliever Jon Coutlangus from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for Class A outfielder Daniel Perales on Monday.
Coutlangus did not make the Reds’ roster coming out of spring training, but appeared in 64 games last season for Cincinnati, going 4-2 with a 4.39 ERA in his rookie year. He struck out 38 batters in 41 innings for the Reds, but also had control problems, walking 27.
Perales is beginning the 2008 season on the disabled list after hitting .282 with 92 RBIs last season for Class A South Bend. The D-Backs selected Perales in the 22nd round of the 2006 draft out of USC.
