The Diamondbacks on Wednesdayannounced their 27 selections for rounds 4-30 of major league baseball's first-year player draft.

The D-Backs continued to focus their draft selections on college-level players, with 25 picks coming from the college ranks, including 22 players from four-year colleges and three from junior and community colleges. The D-Backs also drafted 10 high school prospects.

Overall, Director of Scouting Tom Allison and his staff selected 15 pitchers (11 right-handers and four left-handers), two catchers, 16 infielders and two outfielders.

"Today, we identified and drafted 27 more players that our scouting staff feels have the opportunity to contribute in the big leagues," said Allison, in his third season as the D-Backs' director of scouting. "Each of these athletes will define their own path to the majors."

The D-Backs selected four players with local ties today, beginning with infielder Matthew Helm (seventh round, 216th overall), who went to Hamilton High School in Chandler. UCLA right-handed pitcher Charles Brewer (12th round, 366th overall) attended Chaparral High School in Scottsdale. Right-handed pitcher Brian Budrow (28th round, 846th overall), a Glendale native and Mountain Ridge High School graduate, was selected from the University of Utah. Infielder Jacob Williams (29th round, 876th overall), son of former Diamondback Matt Williams, was chosen from Brophy College Prep in Phoenix.

This is Arizona's 14th draft since being awarded an expansion team in 1995.
