NBA sources have confirmed the Phoenix Suns have made initial contact with veteran free agent Jalen Rose and are exploring the possibility of adding him to their roster.
Among other teams interested in Rose are the defending champion Miami Heat. Rose was waived by the New York Knicks earlier this week and will make $16.9 million this season from the Knicks.
The Suns, who have two open spots on their 15-man roster, have $1.54 of their $5 million midlevel exception remaining but are more likely to offer Rose the minimum of $1.1 million, $744,551 of which would count against the Suns’ salary cap.
The Suns are $1.57 million under the NBA’s luxury tax threshold.
