Matt Barket hit a grand slam, and No. 1 Tulane got four scoreless innings from its bullpen in a 9-3 win over No. 11 Arizona State on Sunday at New Orleans.
Tulane (7-0) completed a series sweep with the win. It’s the first time the Sun Devils have been swept since Florida State took three straight in 2002.
Barket’s grand slam came in the third inning and gave the Green Wave a 4-0 lead. RBI singles by Brad Emaus and Nathan Southard in the fourth inning made it 6-0 for Tulane.
Arizona State (6-8), which has dropped five straight, got on the board in the fifth inning. The first run came on a double by Rocky Laguna and a two-run homer by Willy Fox made it 6-3.
The Green Wave’s bullpen kept the Sun Devils off the board over the final four innings.
ASU first baseman Jeff Larish (McClintock High) led the Sun Devils, going 2-for-4 with two doubles. Laguna went 1-for-3 with an RBI double, and Fox (Desert Mountain) hit a two-run home run in his first career start.
Tulane tacked on three more runs in the eighth inning.
Starter J.R. Crowel (2-0) picked up the win, giving up five hits and three runs over five innings.
Pat Bresnehan (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up four hits and five runs in three innings.
