The 2007-08 season hasn’t started, but Arizona State basketball coach Herb Sendek is already looking ahead.

Trent Lockett, a 6-foot-5, 195-pound shooting guard from Hopkins High School in suburban Minneapolis, became Arizona State’s first basketball commitment for the 2009 school year.

Per NCAA rules, Sendek is not allowed to comment on recruits until they sign a letter of intent, which won’t happen until the fall of 2008.

Lockett, the No. 98-ranked prospect in the class of 2009, according to Rivals.com, also considered Iowa State, Wisconsin, Marquette and Colorado State.

As a sophomore last season, Lockett averaged 7.5 points as a sixth man for Hopkins, and figures to be a main contributor the next two seasons at what is considered a premier basketball program in Minnesota.

Lockett also reportedly had a good vibe with current freshman James Harden upon their meeting last weekend. Lockett visited the ASU campus and watched basketball practice on Saturday.
