Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi are being reunited with Connecticut coach Geno Auriemma at practice for the U.S. women's national basketball team.
Joining Bird and Taurasi in the eight-woman pool chosen Monday are 2008 Olympic gold medalists Tamika Catchings, Candace Parker, Cappie Pondexter, Kara Lawson, Sylvia Fowles and Seimone Augustus.
The two former UConn stars helped the Huskies win consecutive national championships in 2002 and 2003 under Auriemma, who was chosen the successor to Anne Donovan as coach of the United States in April. The 55-year-old coach has led Connecticut to six national championships, including a 39-0 mark last season.
The team will train at the end of September for a week.
