FLAGSTAFF - Jeff Wheeler returned two interceptions for touchdowns, Alex Watson caught three scoring passes and Northern Arizona routed Dixie State 66-14 Saturday for its first victory of the year.

The Lumberjacks (1-2), in their home opener, scored three touchdowns in the first 4:36 against the overmatched Rebels, an NCAA Division II school in its first season as a fouryear institution after moving up from junior college status.

Alex Henderson returned the opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown. On Northern Arizona’s next possession, Jason Murrietta threw a 60-yard scoring pass. When Dixie got the ball, Wheeler intercepted Danny Southwick’s pass and returned it 22 yards for a touchdown.

The Lumberjacks open Big Sky Conference play next week at Idaho State.
