APACHE JUNCTION: Bread of Life Christian Fellowship Church, 32 N. 114th St., will present a Christmas concert at 6 p.m. today, led by Shirley Colvin, a member of the church’s praise and worship team.

The Chicago native has been associated with many professional groups and choirs, but now focuses entirely on spiritual work. Also singing will be the church’s children’s ministry, Rebecca Martin’s Ministries dance and mime, Malachi Tressler, and Sharon and Reggie Hill. The concert is free. Those attending are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the church’s food bank. (480) 354-8247.

“The Star of Christmas,” an animated Christmas movie by Veggie Tales, will be shown 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Gateway of Hope Church, which meets in the Performing Arts Center of Apache Junction High School, 2525 S. CHANDLER

A dramatic musical, “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” written by Deborah Craig-Claar and Mark Hayes, will be presented 5:30 p.m. today and 10 a.m. Sunday at Chandler First Assembly of God, 532 W. Ray Road. (480) 963-6868.

The Chancel Choir will perform a Christmas cantata during worship at 9 a.m. Sunday at Chandler United Methodist Church, 251 W. Chandler Blvd. A play, “The Nativity,” will be presented by children at the 4 p.m. Christmas Eve program. Other worship of Christmas Eve will be 9 a.m. and 11 p.m., featuring a candlelight service, communion, Scripture and carols. GILBERT

Women of Gilbert Christian Church, 326 E. Guadalupe Road, will have a potluck and cookie exchange at 5:30 p.m. today, with fellowship, prayer, ministry and Christmasrelated activities. (480) 892-9612.

MESA

Boulder Mountain Christian Church, 9390 E. McLellan Road, will host a live nativity and petting zoo 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today. The free event will allow the public to drive past the manger scene or park and walk around it and visit the petting zoo. The church will give each family a small gift and serve hot chocolate, coffee and cookies around a bonfire. Holiday crafts will be available. (480) 986-0006.

Festival Choirs and a symphonic orchestra will present “This Gift — Sounds of Christmas” concerts at 7:30 p.m. today and 3 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Baptist Church, 2130 E. University Drive. Free. “La Pastorela: The Shepherd’s Odyssey: A Latino Christmas Tale,” will be presented 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. today in the Piper Repertory Theater at Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. First Presbyterian Church, 161 N. Mesa Drive, will present “What Sweeter Music,” a Christmas cantata featuring children’s and adult vocal choirs, hand bells and a signing choir, at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The Chancel Choir of First United Methodist Church, 15 E. First Ave., will present “A Candlelight Christmas” by Benjamin Harlan at the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday. Harlan’s work will be presented by a chamber orchestra and organ. A family Christmas Eve service will be 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. candlelight service, both in the sanctuary. “One Small Child,” a new musical by award-winning arranger Tom Fettke, will be presented at Advent worship services at 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Church of the Master Presbyterian (USA), 6659 E. University Drive. The 30-member Church of the Master Choir, directed by Don Borrmann, and a 10-piece orchestra have worked since August on the production. Handel’s “Messiah,” featuring the 40-member Mesa Symphony Orchestra and Mesa Community College choirs totaling 114 singers, will be performed at 2:30 p.m. today at the Ikeda Theater at Mesa Arts Center, 1 E. A singalong of Handel’s “Messiah” will be 7:30 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 161 N. Mesa Drive. The performance will include the oratorio’s Christmas portion and “Hallelujah Chorus.” Glenn Bennett, director of choral activities at Mesa Community College, will direct the choir, joined by Mark Ramsey on the Visser-Rowland pipe organ and a string ensemble and soloists. St. Luke Lutheran Church, 807 N. Stapley Drive, will have Christmas Eve services 9:30 a.m. (Advent worship led by Sunday school children); a family Christmas service at 4 p.m.; a service of lessons and carols at 7 p.m.; and candlelight communion service at 11 p.m. A festival communion service will be 10 a.m. Christmas Day. The Christ-centered yoga ministry at Mountain Park Church, 2408 E. Pecos Road, will have a Christmas yoga event 6 p.m. Thursday. QUEEN CREEK

Rock Point Church, affiliated with the Baptist General Conference, will offer three daytime services and one evening service on Christmas Eve. Camp Kidzrock Kids will sing holiday music at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services at the Higley Center for the Performing Arts, 4068 E. Pecos Road. SCOTTSDALE

The Worship Arts Ministry of Scottsdale Bible Church, 7601 E. Shea Blvd., will present its remaining performances of its 21st annual Christmas production, “He Came … The Story Begins,” at 7 p.m. today with a matinee at 4 p.m. More than 200 performers from the adult and children’s choirs, orchestra, dance and drama teams will take part. Scottsdale Symphony Orchestra will present Handel’s Messiah for the 29th season, featuring a community singalong, orchestra and soloists, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Grace Chapel, 8524 E. Thomas Road. A Christmas concert, featuring the church choir, bell choir, organ solos and carols will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1337 W. 11th St. A reception will follow.
