CHANDLER
Temple Beth Sholom, 3400 N. Dobson Road, Chandler, will host the first of a three-part Shabbatons to mark Hanukkah at 4 p.m. today. The Conservative Jewish congregation will have mincha at 4 p.m. focusing on a Hanukkah theme, with a Maariv service at 5:45 p.m. The Shabbatons are to help people learn how to observe and practice parts of a traditional Shabbat and will be led by Rabbi Bryan Bramly. At 6:15 p.m., families will have a mass lighting of their personal hanukiots, or menorahs, with more than 100 expected. It will be followed by a party, with food, dancing, karaoke and holiday music. PHOENIX
The completion of a new Sefer Torah will be marked at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ahavas Torah — The Scottsdale Torah Center, 7002 E. Ludlow Drive, Phoenix. A second day of Hanukkah mincha will be 2 p.m. Letter writing will be followed by dancing at 2:30 p.m., a meal at 4:30 p.m. and a maariv at 5:30 p.m. A children’s program will start at 2:30 p.m. Ariel and Ayala Shoshan will be hosts.
A family Hanukkah fun night, with a magic show and arcades, will be 7:30 p.m. today at the Chabad of Arizona Center, 2110 E. Lincoln Drive, Phoenix. Cost is $5 per child, and food will be for sale. At 4 p.m. Sunday, a large menorah will be lighted at Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza, 1700 W. Washington St., Phoenix, and there will be a clown show, face painting, hot latkes and doughnuts.
