Around the clock, relay teams will walk around the track at Chandler’s Basha High School in a battle against cancer. The 2012 American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Chandler -- from 6 p.m. May 11 through 6 a.m. May 12 -- is one of many such relays taking place across the East Valley as people walk to raise money in support of cancer research, treatment and awareness.
During the overnight event, individuals and teams camp out and walk a relay path, with the goal of keeping at least one team member on the track at all times. According to volunteermatch.org, teams do most of their fundraising prior to the event, but some teams also hold fundraisers at their camp sites during the relay.
In addition to walkers, the relay at Basha High is in need of volunteers for committees dealing with a variety of tasks, from accounting to publicity to food.
