Volunteers from Gilbert Cares are taking on the task of helping refurbish a South Phoenix neighborhood this week, in a project that began Sunday and concludes this coming Saturday.
As part of National Volunteer Week, 216 volunteers from Gilbert, Chandler, South Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, Scottsdale, Apache Junction and Queen Creek – as well as representatives from various Pinal and Maricopa county businesses – are working to refurbish a neighborhood of 16 residences as part of the “Phoenix Rising” project.
Volunteers are representing Gilbert’s Campo Verde High School, Mesa Preparatory Academy, ChildHelp of Phoenix, Gilbert Youth Sports League, Citrix Systems of Tempe, Discovery Community Church in Gilbert, John’s Refrigeration in Mesa, Ben Franklin Plumbing in Gilbert, Williams Field High School, Perry High School, among other organizations and outlets.
Paint and other needed materials were provided by Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport and Town of Gilbert Household Hazardous Waste recycling facility.The residences are home to seniors, people with disabilities, veterans and families at risk.
Volunteers will be fed during a block party, furnished by the First Watch Ministry and Panchero’s Mexical Grill.
