You may enjoy the bright flash and loud boom of fireworks on the 4th of July - but your pet probably doesn't. Independence Day often results in dogs, cats and other pets getting spooked and then running off.

So Maricopa County Animal Care and Control is urging people to keep their pets inside and away from noisy celebrations. You might also turn on a fan, the radio or TV to drown out the sound of fireworks. If you already know you have a pet that gets anxious, consult your veterinarian about other options that might be available.

Make sure your pets are are wearing collars. The dog's collar should have a license attached and the cat's collar should have an ID tag. And if they do get lost, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control recommends that you visit its locations every day and post your pet's information around your neighborhood.
