“Just think, if the state of New York had done the right thing, there’d be two more firefighters who would be with us and enjoying Christmas with their families.”

“President Obama can set an example by funding his family vacations and travel out of his personal income (salary, etc.) and not by using taxpayer funds. If he can’t afford a vacation, stay home. That’s what we, the people, do.”

“If teachers have to add expert marksman to their resume, under a GOP budget plan how much will their salaries be cut? And will women receive equal pay even if they are a better shot?”

“If you are counting your blessings this holiday season, be sure to include the NHL lockout. It’s a major relief we real sports fans can savor.”

“The NRA wants to put an armed guard in all classrooms, but we already have that. It’s called ‘prison.’”

“‘Assault weapons’ can be defined as anything from guns and knives, to baseball bats and golf clubs. It’s not just the guns, folks! You can’t ban assault weapons without banning non-gun weapons!”

“Linda Turley-Hansen says government is too ‘blind, stupid and selfish’ to help the weak. But a democratic government is society in action. A government which ignores its weaker citizens is a faithful reflection of an uncharitable electorate.”

“The Democrat party is the party of the rich. The wealthiest party consist of: Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass.; Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va.; Sen. Mark Warner, D-W.Va.; George Soros, and Oprah Winfrey — to name a few.”

VENT # 8: “The Democrat party is the party of the rich. The wealthiest party consist of; Sen. John Kerry (D, Mass), Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, W. Vir.), Sen. Mark Warner (D, Vir.), George Soros, and Oprah Winfrey – to name a few.”

    -----------------------------------------------------

“The Democrat party is the party of the rich."

Liberals have been saying the Republican are the rich for some time now . . . but the demographic reality is that, in America, more and more Democrats represent areas with a high concentration of wealthy. And Democrats control the majority of the nation's wealthiest congressional jurisdictions.

2nd venter ... many CEO'S enjoy company paid vacations and can take their families too.

Obama is CEO of the biggest corporation in America ... why should he get any less than the CEO of Cambell's Soup?

Accuracy, I think you need to prove your statement that Democrats control the majority of the nations wealthiest congressional jurisdictions.

    I throw the challenge flag.

4th venter ... now if we could just somehow get March Madness stopped the world would be a better place.

All those basketball games should only be televised on a pay per view channel so people's regular programs aren't taken off the air for meaningless basketball games.

If people REALLY want to see them they would willingly pay to have the channel.

Those of us who DON'T care a fig for basketball would not be subjected to the endless March Madness.

6th venter, yes ... any / all weapons are ASSAULT weapons. You can't hardly use one without assaulting someone. Except for target practice.

And, many things that are not intended to be weapons can be used as one.

Outlawing anything that can be used as a weapon would take high heel shoes off the market :)

And, it would make cooking a real challenge.

Venter#2:..Those who criticize the cost of Obama’s vacation don’t want you to know that George W. Bush spent at least $20 million taxpayer dollars just on flights to his ranch in Crawford.
The right wing has been outraged price tag for Obama’s family vacation, and they constantly hold George W. Bush up as an example of how thrifty a president should be when going on vacation.
The problem is that W. wasn’t thrifty. He was the most expensive vacation president in US history. Not only did Bush spend more days on vacation than any other president, but he used Air Force One more often while on vacation than any other president.
During Bush’s two terms, the cost of operating Air Force One ranged from $56,800 to $68,000 an hour. Bush used Air Force One 77 times to go to his ranch in Crawford, TX. Using the low end cost of $56,800, Media Matters calculated that each trip to Crawford cost taxpayers $259,687 each time, and $20 million total for Bush’s ranch flights. But there is more, much more. Unlike the Obama’s $4 million Christmas vacation price tag, which includes the cost of everything from transportation to accommodations for the First Family, the White House staff, and the White House press corps, Bush’s numbers only include the cost of flying the president to Crawford. The cost of transporting and accommodating staff, media, friends and family is not included in Bush’s vacation numbers. Percentage of presidency spent on vacation: Bush=32%....Obama=5.2%.

Arizona Willie has posted the challenge flag . . . Because, Liberals like to define the Democrats as the party of poor and middle income Americans – but Democrats, at the same time, "control the majority of the nation's wealthiest congressional jurisdictions."

Richest Members of Congress Are Democrats:

Democrat Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, of the House of Representatives, represents one of America's wealthiest regions. Her San Francisco district has more than 43,700 wealthy households.

AZWillie - first, you may want to surf on over to OpenSecrets dot o r g and click on the Personal Finances link. There, it will show you that SEVENTY PERCENT of the wealthiest members of congress are - you guessed it - democrats. Next, you might take a gander at the CNBC article about "8 of the 10 wealthiest counties in America voted for Obama". Then, meander over to Newsmeat dot com and click on "Hall of Fame" - there you can sort - by Newsmeat's categories - the biggest political contributors. Doesn't matter what category you click on - whether it's celebrities OR CEO's, the overwhelming majority of the wealthiest contribute to dems. As a "last resort", I urge you to do a little cross-referencing between the Forbes annual list of the "Wealthiest Americans" and check them out on NEwsmeat or Opensecets and see how they spend their political contributions. Again, the overwhelming majority fund the DNC machine.

First venter: and what would the "right thing" have been?

Last venter: let's accept your argument that most Democrats are wealthy. Then remember that they are proposing raising taxes on themselves. They're willing to help those less fortunate than they. If the Republicans are against raising taxes, then they are helping out the Democrats by letting them keep their wealth. What do the poor and middle-class get out of the Republican stance? Not much.

According to the Congretional budget office, gradually raising Medicare's eligability age from 65 to 67 would save about $148 billion through 2021, but would only reduce Medicare cost by about 5% over the longer run. Means-testing Social Security won't save much, since just 2% of Social Security benefits go to seniors with a annual income over $100,000. A study last year by the Center for Economic and Policy Research concluded that the denying or lowering benifits to the wealthy would have little or no affect on the long-term of Social Security. Changing the formula for annual cost-of-living increases could save more $100 billion over the next decade. Social Security does not currently levy payroll taxes on incomes over $110,100; simply removing that celing would close the program's solvency gap for the next 75 years.

Google avoided paying about $2 Billion in world wide income taxes in 2011 by shifting $9.8 Billion in revinues to a Bermuda shell company. Which has no corporate income tax representing about 80% of Googles pre tax profits. A subsequent report found that a Cayman Islands branch of HSBC's Mexican affiliate "had no offices or staff but held 50,000 clients accounts and $2.1 billion.

    Geekette,
how can you be sure that all that increase in tax dollars goes to the poor?
Seems to me that most of it is (mis)-used to make the fat bureaucrat become obese, and also to pay off the political debt to contributors during the last election.

And speaking of contributors, remember that public employee unions gave some of the largest donations (in time and money) to the democratic candidates.
What do they get from it?

Campbells soup has a profit MARGIN of 9.57%. What was CEO Obama's profit margin?

April 16, 2000. Marking the first anniversary of the shooting deaths at Columbine High School, President Clinton announced $120 million in new federal grants Saturday to place more police officers in schools. I guess this was a liberal idea first.

The Federal Assault Weapons Ban started on The Federal Assault Weapons Ban expired on September 13, 2004, expired on September 13, 2004. The massacre at Columbine High School happened April 20, 1999. The So called Assault Weapons Ban was in effect and did not prevent the massacre.

Patriotic Person, Obama's profit margin? 100% freedom

It isn't a case of profit margin ... it's a case of they both are head of large organizations.
Why should Obama receive any less vacation goodies than the CEO of a corporation?
They both bear ultimate responsibility for it's success. Although both of them have to deal with opposition sometimes. The CEO may have a BOD whom he has to persuade and Obama has Congress ( which is hopeless ). Obama has by far the harder job.

And, Obama has taken far less vacation time and spent far less money than your hero George W. Bush who spend 32% of his Presidency of vacation. Obama has spent only 5.2%.

Accuracy, it may be that the very richest Congressperson is a Democrat ... but in the overall picture, as noted by Truth, Republicans have more wealthy Congresspeople than Democrats do.

Besides, don't you think it strange that super wealthy, whom Republicans support, would vote for Democrats as their Congresspeople?

If the Democratic Congresspeople represent wealthy districts you would have expected those districts to vote Republican.

Well, maybe not. If they wealthy people got wealthy on their own instead of inheriting their money then they are probably fairly smart. If smart and voting Democrat it shows they they are smart enough to know that the Republican plan is NOT good for America and are willing to vote against their own short term interests and vote Democrat.

    AZ Willie,
You wanted to compare Obama to CEO's. OK. Then compare all aspects. No where does it say he gets less than CEO's. If a company is spending more than it takes in and has been doing that for 52 years and needs to address circumstances I don't think most CEO's will go on vacation until the ship is going in the right direction. Their job is at stake! Most likely that company wouldn't be in business after 52 years of spending more than it takes in. With Obama and the Left and the Right it is "MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY". Until there is a majority of MODERATE Democrats and Republicans in Congress we will be destine down this same path. My concern is my grandchildren. They are going to look back and say "What were they thinking?"

And where did you get those %ages on vacation time???????

PatrioticPerson: you say most CEO'S won't go on vacation until the ship is going in the right direction?

In what universe do you live?

Have you not seen all the articles about companies going bankrupt but the CEO'S and other top executives still get multi-million dollar bonuses?

There are no bigger crooks than CEO'S and COO'S and CFO'S etc. etc.

As for where I got the vacation percentages ... they were in another post. I think it was one by Truth not sure. But I have seen them before. You could probably google them.

I live in the same universe that you do. The difference is that just because there are a couple of unscrupulous people does not mean that all are unscrupulous. I would bet that most are very serious, concerned, empathetic caring individuals. It's like saying when someone is murdered by a gun owner that all gun owners are murderers.

So I see it's ok for you to do it but nobody else can .
Folks see how it is in the liberal mindset- do as I say not as I do.

I think you owe me an apology.
