“I can’t believe that Dave Allison’s performance pay was approved. There’s no balanced budget and the 2 percent increase they just gave is being taken away districtwide. Doesn’t seem to affect him. How fair is that?”

“I don’t see anything wrong with going over the fiscal cliff. People are going to be educated on the pros and cons of Republican austerity. Maybe we should demand Canada pass harboring laws.”

“Since my charitable giving will no longer be tax deductible, United Way can count on me to cancel my donations.”

“What’s with all the boo-hooing over a ‘fiscal cliff’? One could see it coming for years, if one cared to look. After all the political greed, doling out billions to left-wing welfare causes and non-deservers, it’s time to pay the piper. Now man-up people or be prepared to go down with the ship.”

“So Congress is working this weekend after spending the year working only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. What a worthless bunch. They ought to work two months straight at the beginning on the year and that’s all except for a national emergency. Would you even consider buying a used car from Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell or John Boehner? I think not. Anyone who voted for any incumbent for Congress or the Senate is actually part of the problem.”

“Congress is making the Mideast look like they have their act together. If Egypt were to send their troops to Washington D.C. to stabilize our government, I would be to ashamed to stop them.”

“For you tea party people, if you are worried about losing your weapons and enjoy overthrowing governments, why don’t you move to Syria? You’ll be in paradise and serve a good cause helping the rebels. Also, maybe the NRA will fund it. I know how you hate spending taxpayers’ money. One other thing, before we start arming teachers with weapons in the classroom, let’s first train them how to operate a copying machine. When they can successfully un-jam one of those, then we can proceed to weaponry.”

    AZ Willie,
40% taxes on anyone no matter what they make is criminal.

If I understand your information above you are completely wrong.
From your 1040 tax form you use line 43 which is your "taxable income" and go to the tax tables to determine how much you owe. Let's say (as an example) your line 43 is $285,000. You go to the tax computation work sheet (year 2011) and let say you are filing as Married filing jointly. You enter line 43 ($285,000) in column a. Then do the computation as shown on the worksheet. Your tax is based on the $285,000 amount. YOU DON'T PAY DIFFERENT AMOUNTS BASED ON THE FIRST $100,000, THEN THE SECOND $100,000 AND THEN A DIFFERENT AMOUNT ON THE REMAINING $85,000. You are taxed at the same rate for the full $285,000.
You need to find a new account to do your taxes.

Accuracy, why donate to United Way anyway? A good chunk of what you give goes to " executive salaries " and " bonuses " and quite a bit of the remainder goes to help invading aliens.

I quit giving to all those " charities ".

I donate to Mayo Clinic Alzheimers and Cancer Research programs.

Those help everyone in the long term, but they don't help illegals so they can stay and take an Americans job.

When the day comes that the Salvation Army and other " charities " require proof of citizenship to get aid --- then I will resume donating to them.

VENT # 3: “Since my charitable giving will no longer be tax deductible, United Way can count on me to cancel my donations.”

But you still have until February 1, 2013 to make a gift to Mesa United Way from your IRA assets and have it count towards 2012. There are specific rules for donors to follow to draw on IRA assets – since Congress extended the charitable IRA rollover for 2012 and 2013 so you can give in January 2013 and have it count for 2012. And, you can give again anytime in 2013 and have it count for 2013.

Patriotic Person. It depends on how MUCH the person makes.

Taking 25% from someone who only makes 25K / year and has a family to raise would be criminal.

Taking 40% from someone who makes 52 million dollars a year is just fine. They still have millions and millions of dollars.

And, don't forget, you are talking about a tax rate that is applied only to amounts over a certain bracket. The multi-million dollar earners don't pay 40% on their entire income.

They pay the same amount on the lower brackets as you do.

If you make 100K you are in a certain bracket.
They are in the SAME bracket for their first 100K too.
They pay the same amount on the first 100K presuming all else is equal such as deductions.
They are not taxed at a higher amount than other people until their income gets way up there. And they pay the high tax rate ONLY on the portion of their income that puts them in that bracket.

Once again, they DO NOT pay the high rate on their entire income.

Am I the only one that has a problem with the government taking almost 40% of the money someone makes? I think 25% is too much let alone 40%.

So Dale is still blaming Bush for Obama's spending problem? OK Dale enlighten us as to how all the debt Obama has racked up is really still Bush's fault!

You are right… President Obama won by getting the $620 billion in higher taxes due over the next decade from wealthy Americas. And he left the White House immediately afterwards, for Hawaii, to resume his Hawaii vacation, and to avoid dealing with any plan to shrink the deficit.

But the work to avoid an economic disaster is only just beginning with painful across-the-board spending cuts to the Pentagon and domestic programs are set to kick in.

Negative outlook on the government's massive debt and any plan, that the Democrats will approve, to shrink the deficit.

The government will reach its limit on borrowing unless Congress allows President Obama to increase it. This puts the United States dangerously close to defaulting on its obligations for the first time ever.

Obama refused to compromise, and ended up getting his tax increases without much in revenue cuts. He won big this time. Let's see what excuse he comes up with next time to blame the GOP, and if the American people are dumb enough to buy into it again.

I have to say it again. This so called fiscal cliff is just a bump in the road. The 16 plus trillion dollar deficit is the real FISCAL CLIFF. For the last 52+ years the deficit has been increasing. They (government) currently spend $1.54 for every $1 they take in. If I did that they would throw me in jail. We are at the point where increased taxes only or spending cuts only will not fix it. There must be both increased taxes and substancial budget cuts and it will hurt. But there also MUST be measures so this doesn't happen again.

Vent #1: Don't know or care about Dave Allison.

Vent #2: People will learn the pros and cons of republican austerity? How about the people learn about the uncontrolled spending of the liberal/progressive/socialist democrats. Cut til it hurts then cut some more.

Vent #3: Charity should be from the heart not because of a tax deduction.

Vent #4: The cliff has just be put off another 2 months. It's still there and will smack upside the head real soon.

Vent #5: Both sides re-elected their same old folks, if they were running. So we deserve what we get.

Vent #6: So you would like the Muslim brotherhood taking control of our government? Interesting....

Vent #7: The Tea Party has 3 core values: Fiscal responsibility, limited government and free market enterprise. Now I am sure you would love for the big government nanny state to take your guns, your freedoms and your personal responsibilities in return for a free comfortable life, but that's not going to be the case for very long. When the government fails and anarchy breaks out, you will want a gun.

Well, all you doubters, the boys got er done. The clift was avoided for now. Nice to know that the cliff was the fault of the left wingers who got handouts. I'd never heard before that heavy defense spending on two wars was a left wing problem.
