The recent diatribe by Tom Patterson (Tribune, “Deferring Syria decision to Congress pure political masterstroke for the president”; Sept. 8) concerning recent events in Syria is typical of the arrogant, duplicitous, attitude exhibited by him and his ilk toward any plans by the president.
For the duration of his entire presidency, the ridiculous ‘right’ have gone out of their way to try and thwart Obama’s efforts to improve living conditions for the middle class by leveling the ‘playing field’ with regard to taxation and health coverage (to name just a few things). Instead of working with him, they have labored diligently against him. Forty times they have tried to repeal the health care act — and failed!
In an obvious effort to try to rig the outcome of the recent presidential election, they tried to place restrictions on voter registration — and failed!!
One of their few ‘successes’ has been the downgrading of America’s credit rating when they refused to extend the debt limit — such a proud moment in our history! And yet they have the audacity to claim that Obama’s ‘re-think’ of the Syrian situation is purely politics. They knew where this situation was headed a year ago and wanted congressional approval — but did they lay out a contingency plan for him to review? No! They saw it then as an opportunity to further embarrass and ‘stick it’ to him. And what did the ‘right’ do when the ‘red line’ was crossed? They stayed on vacation and played phone poker. Seems the ‘sticker’ has become the ‘stickee.’
