Friday night, a little after 7 p.m., my granddaughter called me. She had just left her school in Mesa where she is a teacher and discovered that she had a flat tire. She managed to drive her vehicle to a nearby mini-mart/gas station but couldn’t release the spare tire. She is a do-it- yourself kind of person so I knew she was really frustrated to have even called me for help. Once I arrived and saw the situation, I knew that I wasn’t going to be able to physically help her either. As we were discussing the problem in the mini-mart, two very kind customers happened to overhear us and they offered assistance. They wouldn’t take anything but our verbal thanks and appreciation. In talking with them, I learned that they work for Elite Mobile Auto Detail and had just stopped for a snack. Jose and Edgar are true gentlemen. I don’t have a huge need for auto detailing, but when I do, I’ll absolutely use them.

JMJ: Instead of "attacking" someone, try to add substance to the discussion. I happen to agree with Leon. What you don't seem to realize is that YOUR comment only helps prove his statement! It's clear you have no respect for others.

Leon, in the 1050's, did you know William the Conqueror of 1066 fame? Were there Froot Loops then, too? The next time I'm in Normandy, I'll look to see if there's a monument to you for rescuing damsels in distress. You know, chivalry and all that.

I find this to be a sad Letter to the Editor. When a lady feels the need to sit down and send a "Thank You" for a gentlemanly act. Folks, I know you get tired of me talking about the "good ole days" but back in the 1940's, 1050's and this would not have been an "exceptional" act but a "commonplace" one.
A man was "expected" to render assistance of any kind to a woman (women were "ladies" back then, addressed as Mrs or Miss). Nowadays, if I hold the door open for a woman, and elderly man or someone with a disability (oops, sorry a "physical challenge")...you are bound to get "told off". I see how "equality" had diminished our Great Nation in as many ways as it has helped it. The "good with the bad" is how our folks would have said it. A man giving up his seat to a woman, and older man or a "physically challenged" (did I get that right ???) man or standing aside so that they can enter or exit a building first has become a thing of the past. Our children have grown up with not manners and no respect, either at home or at school. About the only old American Value that has been reborn is the deference paid to our Military Men and Women. People in their 60's and older can remember how the Liberal Political Activists and College/University students vilified them and even went so far as to throw human excrement and urine on them when they returned from fighting for America in Vietnam. Thankfully, that is not the case anymore.

    Julia,
It's nice to know that there are still people who will help...and, probably very prudent of your grandaughter to call you.
But, what I'm dying to know, since you had a story going here, what was it that made it so hard to get the spare tire "released"?

Don't leave me hanging! The suspense! (Just kidding)
