Some tea party activists and so-called citizen militia groups are so much against background checks because they fear their guns will be taken away. They fear this because of the hysteria whipped by the NRA that government knows where their guns are. The NRA already has a database on all gun sales. The NRA knows where the guns are. We don’t want your guns, but we don’t want guns in the hands of criminals, gangsters, domestic and foreign terrorists, and unhinged persons.

Some ABC investigators were able to arrange gun sales over the internet and phone meeting gun sellers in parking lots. This is leading to sales of guns to criminals and guns being trafficked to Mexico. No wonder gun violence is rising and the border is so unsecure. Intimidation by opponents and citizen militias to sensible gun policies and background check won’t deter concerned citizens demanding change. The nation would be safer if we require universal background checks on all gun sales at store, gun shows, internet sales, and personal sales. We know Sen. Flake will show courage in the face of intimidation by these groups and support and pass universal background checks.
