Was Mike McClellan’s commentary piece, “The Lost Art of Civil Discourse,” a joke? I am asking seriously. Because how could it have possibly been for real? “The Lost Art of Civil Discourse” immediately followed his piece titled “The Latest Cause for the Crazies is Common Core.” Yes, that really happened. In one commentary McClellan calls names. In his very next commentary, he lectures us that we shouldn’t call names.
In his piece, “The Lost Art of Civil Discourse,” his first lines were, “Which do you prefer? ‘I get your point, but…’ Or ‘Fascist.’ ‘Communist.’” He should have added to the list “crazies.” Or would that have made the hypocrisy too obvious? Well, sorry, but it was already glaringly obvious.
I would now like to use McClellan’s own words against him, with my own words added in parentheses: “If you actually faced the folks whom you disagree with (on Common Core) you might tone it down, and treat us as humans. You might just find that, hey, “they’re” not so bad. Even, gulp, reasonable. With some good points. Some of which you share. We might get beyond the caricatures sold by (you, Mr. McClellan, in) the media.
Pot, meet kettle.
