Your editorital on the Postal Service in the Sunday, Oct. 23 issue does not reflect research into the true cause of the financial problem. A 2006 law requires the Postal Service to fund 75 years of pensions and health benefits — something no business would do and none are forced to do. The financial downturn for them began as a result; otherwise the Postal Service would have its usual large surplus to operate. We’re at the point where they can’t afford this payment; and the conservative answer is to shut down and lay off workers — and you adopted that same view which reinforces the myth that government is incompetent. The next step in the plan is to privatize the entire function.
Please do an article or correction on your editorial, using real journalism — unbiased facts instead of conservative ideology. You should also note that no tax dollars are used to operate the Postal Service. Remember when digging into a story was better than making things up? Thank you.
