Our East Valley Congressmen Matt Salmon and David Schweikert are about to be faced with an issue that could define their legacy as Congressmen, and I believe (and hope) that they will do the right thing. The immigration issue is now in the House, and before both of these Congressmen spout off the usual Republican talking points about the bill, I hope that they realize how important this bill is to our state.

We are not Iowa or Kansas. We are the border state of Arizona. A state so vital in the immigration debate that we were the only state that had both U.S. Senators help draft the bill. We are a state that is home to many top tech companies who are begging for this bill to be passed so that they can keep talented workers under a new work visa system.

We are a state that needs to secure our border to ease the strains illegal immigration is putting on our economy. This is bigger than partisan memos and ‘playing to the base’.

This is about representing Arizona and fixing a broken system.
