In March 2012, I lost my son to suicide. He was only 31 years old. He left no note, but he did leave a beautiful 3-year-old daughter. To this day, the “whys” have yet to be answered.
In the United States a person dies by suicide every 13.7 minutes, claiming more than 38,000 lives each year. I joined the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention this past January, as an advocate for the Arizona Chapter. Suicide rates are at an all time high. We need to address this crisis and the myths that surround suicide deaths. Our children are our most precious gifts!
A year and a half ago, I really never thought about suicide statistics because it wasn’t something that would “EVER” happen in our family ... or so I thought.
Take it from this brokenhearted mother, suicide knows NO boundaries.
