I now believe, because of what happened in Missouri recently, that expanded background checks are simply a federal back-door universal gun registration perpetrated by the Obama administration. I am totally opposed to it.

The Obama Administration recently demanded a list of registered gun permit owners from the state of Missouri to which they readily complied. I believe it was a ruse by Obama to see if the process would work and a precedent set for the future. They claim the list was not used but it does not matter.

Imagine the government recording the purchaser and seller of every gun exchange in the guise of a federally mandated background check. Over time, nearly every gun-owner ultimately buys or sells a gun.

Therefore, over time, a registration of nearly every gun owner would come into existence in every state. One could also readily imagine legal cases demanding confirmation that background checks were actually performed necessitating the retention of those lists state by state. Now using the Missouri tactics, the Obama administration could demand that the lists become a Federal responsibility, ostensibly to resolve state-to-state concerns, and now we have a federal universal gun-owner registration that could be used in the future to collect firearms.

It is now apparent to me that an Obama controlled media is helping him use the poor unsuspecting shooting victims’ families, especially Gifford, as pawns in his efforts to continue to chip away at the Constitution. Expanded background checks would not have helped these poor families.

I now have decided to become a member of NRA and I will do everything in my power to protect my 2nd Amendment Rights.

Senator Flake has it right. McCain has become another pawn.

Gerald Loffredo
