Thanksgiving is a once a year memorable reminder of the goodness of God in this nation. As we think of our history, the American custom of Thanksgiving transcends cultures and stands as a truly American tradition. While giving thanks to God for His provision, gratitude for survival arranged the first Thanksgiving of Plymouth Colony in the fall of 1621 for the Pilgrims’ families and their Indian friends to celebrate.

You will find that people go out of their way to convey their appreciation this Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2013, and to remind themselves and their families to always be thankful for those serving in the armed forces protecting our freedom daily.

No other holiday captures the spirit of home cooking the way Thanksgiving does. From the perfect roast turkey with stuffing, old-fashioned pumpkin pie, good food shared with family and friends is what makes this day so special.

Being thankful is the reason for celebration — as we pause and remember the many abundant blessings that God has bestowed upon us. Let’s offer our heart-felt love to God this Thanksgiving season, and all the year long. God is more wonderful than our hearts can receive.

As Patrick Henry once said, “No free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality, and virtue; and by a frequent recurrence to fundamental principles.”

We are truly a blessed nation, aren’t we? After all, by God’s Grace, it is because of freedom that we have so much for which to be thankful.

May you have a most “Blessed Thanksgiving”
