I never thought I would say or write the words “Impeach Obama,” but I’m doing it. I supported Obama’s bid for the presidency, but he has taken a terrible situation created by Bush and the Republicans, and made it far worse. To add insult to injury, he now seems incapable of getting us out of the complete mess that is Afghanistan. Given today’s headlines that we may be in Afghanistan until 2014 or later, it is time for radical change.

How dare any American leader continue to send America’s sons and daughters to their deaths, fighting for a corrupt and delusional “government” in Kabul? How can we continue to send billions of U.S. dollars to Afghanistan, when here at home we are cutting medical benefits for children and the elderly, and are looking at all kinds of budget reductions. This is insane!

Obama needs to wake up, finally show some political courage and get us out of Afghanistan. If he fails to do this, then the new Republican majority in the House of Representatives should force the issue. If Obama won’t get us out of Afghanistan, the Republicans will certainly have a more valid reason to impeach him than they did when they went after Bill Clinton.

Someone, somehow, must take the lead and get America out of the insanity of Afghanistan.

    John,

While I share most of your sentiments about the War, both in Afghanistan and in Iraq, and while I was more than a bit disappointed in the negotiations leading upto the Afghanistan surge, I view the messes left to President Obama by Bush43 and Tricky Richard the Second to be much more difficult to resolve that what Johnson left for Tricky Richard the First. Obama is not looking for Peace with Honor. But he is looking for Peace. And unlike Johnson, he is not going to switch leadership with a coup everytime the domestic leaders criticize us for what we are doing in their country. After all, we are the insurgents, not the Taliban.

I do agree that the sooner we get out, the better.

Notice how silent Jonnie McCain has become? Surely had he really known how to fix things in Afghanistan, he would be speaking up. Yet all he can say now is "Don't ask, don't tell!"

P.S. Some of you will recall that Nixon's nick name was not "Tricky Richard." But using his real nick name triggers the Trib's profanity screening program. Get a life Tribune!
