I am so sick and tired of the people who hate guns coming out of the woodwork every time there is a tragedy.
Where are they when every day in Mexico — where guns are illegal, by the way — people die from guns at a higher rate that the US.
Starting with media who glorifies the killings and plastering it 24/7 so that other deranged individuals and watch and learn all about how to carry their craziness. We need to ban the media from sensation ling these events. Watch how they scream and cry about that.
Yes, I support gun control. I was against the law in AZ that allows all to carry concealed. It was a good thing having to take a class, get finger printed and learn about gun safety in order to get a CCW permit.
Fingering printing everyone who gets a firearm and not permitting them to take that firearm home until that check comes back is a good idea and I’m a gun lover. And yes, close the gun show loop hole. I own assault weapons and various other guns that I use for sport shooting and if it takes enacting those types of laws to keep my right to possess arms, then I am for them.
And finally, my heart goes out those killed in the last tragedy as well as all the others. They didn’t have to happen but trying to make guns illegal is not going to do anything.
Just ask Mexico.

Guy,
Where have you been all this time, while all those killings have been going on, in the woodwork?[beam]
We live in a state run by mental midgets who are controlled by big business interests.

We live in a state where you are free to express your views---and those expressions will be heard!
We live in a state that has a high emigration rate (citizens from other states) because the emigrants are tired of the snow/high taxes/control by local cronyism and a host of other reasons.
We live in a state that catches the corrupted politicians early and hangs them out to dry (and a few who are not corrupt, but were used by corrupt powerbrokers).
We live in a state that people want to move into (not from).
And even when I disagree with some of the commenters, I welcome you and your opinion to our state!!

What a great idea. Crush the first amendment so we can exploit the second amendment. Probably more money to be made from gun manufacturers than from the media anyway. As for corrupt politicians and cronyism, when you look in the dictionary they just have a picture of Arizona... they don't need any words.

Just ask Mexico?? How about just ask countries similar to the US? Say with comparable GDP per capita? Say countries that are not recipients of our guns and drug prohibition violence?
Developed countries with much stricter gun regulation than the US and much lower homicide rates:
Monaco, Japan, Singapore, Iceland, Norway, Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Denmark, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden, Malta, Australia, Poland, France, Netherlands, Ireland, United Kingdom, Portugal, Serbia, Hungary, Andorra, Croatia, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Belgium, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Israel, Finland, Luxembourg, South Korea, Liechtenstein, Latvia, Chile, Taiwan, Turkey, Argentina and Montenegro.

"Developed countries with much stricter gun regulation than the US and much lower homicide rates:"
A) Much stricter gun regulation? No, in fact almost half don't, and some require citizens to own guns. Also nine of the top ten per capita gun ownership countries are on the list.
B) The latest international homicide rate stats are United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime 2010 and they are an estimate with an error of ,4 per 100,000, making a little over half these countries a dead heat with the US.
Sweeping generalization and outright lying doesn't really help much more than egos. Admittedly Japan with the strictest gun control has a homicide rate of .4 per 100,000, However the second strictest gun control is in Russia which has a rate of 10,2 per 100,000 and even with the margin of error applied, more than twice that of the US. In the Western hemisphere only Canada, Argentina and Chile have lower rates than the US and Argentina is within the margin of error. Look things up before you post please and look up the figures not what some website with an axe to grind puts up.

Off the subject a little, but don't you just love those gun buy back programs. From some of the meia shots alot more of those guns were worth a lot more than 200.00 as colector guns etc.i will gladly buy some of those i saw being turned for more than 200.00 and keep them or resell them for a bunch more. Boy alot of those people were getting it stuck you know where. Happy New year to all,

Rich, below is the list for all of the developed countries with their homicide rates for the most recent year from the source you indicated, the 2010 report of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. Here is the link so you can check the accuracy of my cutting and pasting:
http://www.unodc.org/documents/data-and-analysis/statistics/Homicide/Globa_study_on_homicide_2011_web.pdf
There are 42 countries, all with homicide rates 19% less than the US rate or lower - that is Argentina. The UNDOC report does not mention anything about a margin of error, by the way. In any case that error would vary by country and broad assertion can't be accurate.
33 of these 42 countries have homicide rates half or less than the US. The median rate is less than a third that of the US. All have far lower rates of gun ownership than the US and much stricter controls over gun ownership.

As for the top ten gun owning countries and requiring citizens to own guns, here are two examples:
Switzerland has half the number of guns per capita, both military and private, as the US has private guns. The Swiss have stringent regulation of access to guns and ammunition. Ammunition for military weapons must be kept at arsenals. Weapons acquisition permits and gun carrying permits are required. The number and type of guns an individual can purchase is limited in multiple ways. The per capita private gun ownership is about one-seventh that of the US and the homicide rate is about one-seventh that of the US. Coincidence?
bobunf posted at 11:24 pm on Thu, Dec 27, 2012.
The US has about 50 times the number of privately owned guns per capita as ISRAEL. In Israel gun licenses are only given to those who have a reason because they work in security or law enforcement, or those who live in settlements where the state has an interest in them being armed. Anyone who fits the requirements, is over age 21 and an Israeli resident for more than three years, must go through a mental and physical health exam, then pass shooting exams and courses at a licensed gun range, as well as background checks by the Public Security Ministry.
Once they order their firearm from a gun store, they are allowed to take it home with a one-time supply of 50 bullets, which they cannot renew. Gun owners must prove they have a safe at home to keep their weapon in.
Israeli comment: “Those people over there [United States] are barbarians when it comes to weapons, the situation there is insane.”

bobunf; What it amounts to is the U.S. has the largest army in the world when you count all the gun owners, something i am proud to be a part of! As far as what the israeli's think, I could care less, this is not israel!
