Why can’t they say “Merry Christmas” and mean “Christ” in Christmas?

The reason the Savior, Jesus Christ, was born is that we might know God! Based on the Greatest Story Ever Told, the birth of Jesus Christ is the reason we celebrate Christmas and that has brought us great joy.

While 96 percent of America celebrates Christmas, our culture is eroding, erasing and purging all references to Christmas.

God’s greatest gift to us was His only Son Jesus Christ to save us from all our sins. He was called “Emmanuel” which means “God with us” in all times; good and bad, in tragedy and triumph. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” (Luke 2:14)

Tidings of great joy, peace to all, and may the true spirit of the season be with you, and your Christmas dreams come true.

A merry Christmas to all!

Jack and Ninerva Sally, Mesa

Yes, Christ is behind the celebration of Christmas. But the Holidays are sponsored by Neman Marcus, J.C. Pennies, Sachs Fifth Avenue and even Walmart.

Several years ago when we first started hearing the cry "Put Christ back into Christmas," the focus was on the abbreviation "X-mas." Christ was being replaced by an X. Well, guess what gang? The pratice placing a X in place of Christ was first used by the Church, not Neman Marcus.

Jack and Ninevria, do you have a tree on desplay in your home? The tree desplay at Winter Solstice was a pagan ritual. Do you feature gifts under that tree? The first gift giver was a Christian who sold his goods just inherited from his parents and placed the proceeds into stockings which he threw through open windows into the homes of the poor late a night. Then he became a monk. The location and date of this gift giving? Southern Turkey, in the seventh century. Santa was a Christian living in Asia Minor! But it this deed did not coincide with Christmas.

Yes, Christmas if for honoring Christ. But the coinciding Holiday clearly is not.

Looks like “The reason behind the holiday is Christ” letter (published in the East Valley Tribune today) is from Jack & Nineva Salley.

They sent in the “Don't separate religion from Thanksgiving” letter last November 24, 2010. But the Tribune mispelled their name this time.

Christmas! It’s the most wonderful time of the year – a season filled with joy and hope. We celebrate the miraculous birth of Jesus and we can rejoice in the Lord always (1 Thessalonians 5:16) “Rejoice evermore”.

This Christmas season, don't let anything prevent you from experiencing this great joy.

    Have a “Merry Christmas”
