Congressional Republicans should call Obama’s bluff and insist that any immigration reform be contingent upon our borders being 100 percent secure — permanently. If they get fooled again, as in 1986, they deserve it. Furthermore, as a penalty for being in the country illegally, there should be a period of time that the person should not be allowed to vote. Now this idea was stolen from a powerful, influential member of the media, but I would lower the limitation to 15 years. Republicans: propose this idea to the President and let’s see just how compassionate these democrats really are.

Despite federal rules that direct government contracts to small businesses, large companies are receiving billions of dollars more than they are supposed to. So once again we creep closer to default thanks to the Republican Party whos-taking has “ repeatedly paralyzed the U.S. And threatened to derail the economy”. The last stand off, in August 2011, forced ratings agents Standard and Poor's to downgrade the U.S. Government's credit rating. How much damage to the nation are the Republicans willing to do? The GOP seems “ caught in a spiral,” The more voters punish them for their stubborn obstructionism, the worst it gets. Bloomberg.com USA Today
Obama is well aware of that, which is why he's “ finally getting tough,” He's been “ shorn of fantasies of compromise'” and prefers to challenge House Speaker John Boener rather than “ beat his head against a wall of wing-nuts opposition.” Slate.com

"Truth"....if you have an opinion then have the guts to put you name on your post and say it.
I know it must be hard to act like a "man" in the Feminist/LGBT Democrat Party these days but why don't you give it a try. Who's to say, this small act of "manliness" may even be an epiphany moment for you and help you to come to your senses and become a member of the Tea Party or at least, a Republican.[beam]

clarify the statement being 100 percent secure, otherwise the line in the sand keeps moving. build a fence if you have to. the fence fairies will not build it for you. what happened to the funding for a fence?

No such thing as 100% border secure, any rational-thinking person would know this. So, what are the rational decisions that must be made?
1-Harsh fines for employers of illegals
2-Better means of verification of legal status
3-Increased quotas for legal immigration
4-Increased and enhanced temporary worker status, where such workers would pay taxes.
5-Did I mention the harsh fines/imprisonment of employers of illegals, who profit from the virtual slave trade they privately condone, yet publicly rail against?
If we cannot deal with this issue, in a humane, properly capitalistic fashion, then nothing will be done, and it will be status quo. But, I'm sure there are many among us, who wish to gripe about it, no matter what...

The Democrats say the recovery is well under way because of their policies and the Republicans say the Democrats policies will hinder the economy. We will know who was right before Obama leaves office!

Ironic that Leon's paternal grandparents crossed the border from Mexico to California with his father in tow all without papers. Hypocritical? Oh he'll probably claim they were refugees from a country torn by civil war, but isn't Mexico's current political condition similar? I'm not making an argument for illegal imigration, just pointing out the hypocricy. It's a shame the borders weren't more secure at the turn of the last century. Leon would be out there in the desert trying to cross into the U S today.

The illegals can have a green card and a place at the back of the line if they give up welfare, chain migration and birthright citizenship.

Lol....."character smearing" tactics from our Left-Wing Liberals and fellow Democrats.
Sorry, but my Paternal Grandparents came into the United States under a Political Asylum Visa arranged by the Methodist Church of Mexico. The children were given United States citizenship too......sorry, but....no Illegal Alien Mexican Criminals in my family.
Oh, and even though my Parents were brought up speaking only Spanish, they learned in the 1st Grade....and no they didn't have the "Desi Arnaz" - "Carmen Miranda"....accent. You didn't need English subtitles like you did whenever our ex-Mesa Chief of Police did whenever he appeared at City Council Meetings. I guess that is why he only gave TV interviews to Local Spanish Language Stations.......[wink]

Bill,
If it was easy to secure the border, it would already have been done.
The southern border is 1,950 miles long. The northern border is about the same length.
Seems that nobody is flooding in from the north, so what would you have us do on the southern border?
Mines, machine gun nests, electric fences, robo-cops that kill anything that moves?
Until the attraction is removed, "they will come". They don't come from Canada because????

Right, no such thing as 100% seciure borders. You might get an argument from Central Americans on Mexico's southern border. Of course the US isn't as structured and technologically advanced as our friends to the south, but there is hope- no? I think the GOP should call the President's bigger bluff. The one that says we need to raise taxes to lessen deficits. They should say, OK President, how much do we need to rasie taxes to eliminate 1) the yearly deficit and 2) the building debt for all the money he and the Democrats like to spend. That should be an interesting answer.

Please don't confuse the ability to secure the border with the motivation to secure the border. They are vastly different things.
