Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus was one of the chief authors of Obamacare. He helped write it, he voted for it, and he thought it would be great for America. That is, until he started listening to his constituents three years later. At an April 2013 Senate Budget Committee hearing, Baucus said of Obamacare that he saw “a huge train wreck coming.”
This is an important point to note because Sen. Baucus is once again asking us to support his latest overhaul proposal. His new “reform,” of which only initial details were revealed, involves thoroughly rewriting the U.S. tax code. The plan aims to effectively lower corporate incomes taxes while simultaneously taxing the off-shore profits of U.S. companies. The plan is supposed to be revenue neutral.
Baucus’s Obamacare train wreck has resulted in higher premiums, lost health care plans, and/or lost doctors for millions of Americans. A tax reform train wreck would result in additional taxes going to Washington, which only hinders economic recovery and economic growth.
Max Baucus cannot be trusted to author any more overhaul legislation. He already authored one disaster. Let’s not choose him to write another.
