President Obama said that he wants cars to average 54 miles per gallon of gas and that would save you $8,000 over the life of a new car. He is blowing smoke again because 10 years ago the average car was getting about 22 miles per gallon and now cars are averaging 38 miles per gallon. Are we saving money? No. Because the gas companies have raised their prices to keep up their profits. If we start getting 54 miles per gallon the oil companies will raise their prices again and you could be paying $8 to $10 a gallon.

    VofR:

If only you could live up to your name...Scientists are not arguing about man's influence in climate change. Sorry to break the news to you, but the references you cite above are bunk. It appears you pulled the reference froma misinformed source (or a source that seeks to misinform).

If you need a cite for the complete set of over 100 scientific organizations that accept man's influence on climate change see the following journal article:

I mean, they are not Al Gore, but even his wife (oops ex wife) doesn't buy what he is selling. Thankfully for Gore their are viewers like Centrist (ironicly named) that believe in his "idea". Maybe we should have carbon credit dispenseries instead of Medical marijuana. Heck might get to the same folks with one shop.

Or maybe those who believe just are easily fooled when it falls into their thinking. Here is a list of "respected" scientists that fall out of Centrists all assumption.

Scientists arguing that global warming is primarily caused by natural processes
Attribution of climate change, based on Meehl et al. (2004), which represents the consensus view
1860–1980: The similarity between trends in terrestrial sea surface temperatures and sunspots (related to changes in solar radiation) is evidence of the sun's influence on climate.
1979–2009: Over the past 3 decades, temperature has not correlated with sunspot trends. The top plot is of sunspots, while below is the global atmospheric temperature trend. El Chichón and Pinatubo were volcanoes, while El Niño is part of ocean variability. The effect of greenhouse gas emissions is on top of those fluctuations.[citation needed]Scientists in this section have made comments that the observed warming is more likely attributable to natural causes than to human activities. Their views on climate change are usually described in more detail in their biographical articles.

mrconservative: we already are INDEPENDENT from Foreign Oil.
We export 98% of the oil from the Alaska pipeline to Japan.
The new pipeline the oil companies want to run from Canada down to the Gulf Coast is to take oil to a new port they are building where it can be sold on the world market.
That oil will NOT be for domestic consumption. WE WILL BE EXPORTING IT.
We already have enough oil that we can afford to export oil and petroleum products.
If you want to see the price of gas come down down down == bar the exporting of any oil or petroleum products.

Al Gore did indeed bring “global warming” into the arena of public discussion. We can thank him for that because until then it had remained in the venue of science. Correctly, it should be called climate change.

Now that ice caps and mountain ice floes are disappearing they won’t be reflecting much of the solar heat back into space. It’s only going to get worse. Extremes in climate swings and warmer seas are likely to be the first indication. Drought and downpours, hotter hots and colder colds and growth of deserts are probable results. It will take years for data to indicate we have passed the point of no return.

There are many reasons including natural climate cycles. Mankind may not be the cause but we definitely contribute. Burning of fossil fuels, massive deforestation and building of urban “heat islands” are all measurable factors.

The flat earth cadre such as Michelle Bachman are typical of head in the sand extremists willing to sacrifice country and world on the basis of belief and no regard for logic or science. They also claim that if something is found in nature it’s good for us because it’s natural. Well syphilis is found in nature but it’s probably not good for us. Oh, that’s right, it’s God’s revenge for sinning, just like HIV.

Mitt said it in his speech at the GOP convention… He said Obama wants to save the world but he doesn’t want to save the world, he wants more jobs. If he manages to make us “oil independent” by 1220 like he says using coal, natural gas and oil (aka big business) the next jobs will be trying to grow food without water in 100+ heat. You can bet big business will own all the water by then.

Normal cycles may be the base cause but our contribution is all that’s needed to make this little sphere we live on uninhabitable. I don’t expect to still be around by then but there will still be some smirking slack jawed yokel claiming it’s God’s will when it was really our lack of will way back now.

    Larry,

You are saving money. Just think what it would be costing you if you were driving a 22 mph vehicle now! My '83 get 22 mph so I know what I am talking about.

    Mr. C:

I am sorry you are so misinformed. Climate change is not "temperature change." Do yourself a favor and research the issue before posting propaganda.

mr conservative: i agree with you. we should be drilling on the beaches of all the gulf and coastal states run by republicans. just imagine sitting on a beach and hearing, wait for it, pumpjacks. can you imagine the uproar from the citizens that paid for beach front property and all they see are oil and gas wells as far as the eye can see.

Humans are NOT responsible for global warming. That is a hoax made up by Al Gore the Bore. If the temperature is few degrees above normal for a few days, that is not even close to enough evidence that global warming is real.

Willie, Obama inherited an average of $1.80 a gallon for gasoline. Now it's twice that much. Why? Because Obama doesn't want to drill off our own shores. What we need to do is become independent FROM foreign oil. That's the only way I know of to bring down the prices of gas. Getting "regular tune-ups" or keeping our tires "properly inflated" is NOT enough!

    VofR:

Look into it a little more. All respected scientists agree that man's actions and inactions are influencing our climate. To deny it is just to follow blindly those who attempt to decieve.

When Bush the Lesser was in office and the price of gasoline went to almost $4 / gallon, the Republicans said it wasn't the Presidents fault.
They claimed the President had NO CONTROL over oil prices.
But now, the blame Obama for the price of gas. Well of course they do.
When Bush the Lesser was in office they claimed that government didn't create jobs -- it was all private industry -- the jobs situations wasn't Bush's fault.
But now they blame Obama for not creating jobs. Well of course they do.

Don't be silly- Al Gore invented global warming. Interesting that Science is held up for identifying global warming, but the more we learn about those scientists, the less believeable it becomes. Wasn't it this same group that told us we were going to have global freezing back in the 70s? What is next, global moderate temperature. Yes, thankfully Liberals cannot see the irony in their own ignorance.

Do you blame Obama for the flooding in New Orleans, too?
How about global warning? Did he cause that too? No, wait, you right wing radicals don't believe in science do you, so global warming is just a liberal hoax.
