To the individuals who burned a cross in the Gilbert yard on Christmas Eve: If you think you will intimidate or scare those of us who are in interracial relationships and marriages to relocate, you are dead wrong! My husband and I have been through your intimidation in the 60s and 70s.

This is nothing compared to that! To take and burn a cross is sacrilegious! Our family works hard! We contribute to businesses in this community and are all good people. We moved here because this is a safe, family-friendly community with good schools and we will not move away!

You have only demonstrated your own ignorance and strengthened our resolve to help eliminate prejudice and the ignorance that creates it! We will pray that God forgives you.

For those who did this act of attempted intimodation, know that you are on the fringes of committing a hate crime. Should you be convicted, you may expect no leniency at sentencing. You'll get the maximum!
