Voters in Pinal County will be making a decision of historic proportions today as they cast ballots on a proposed $435.2 million bond issue for a phased expansion of Central Arizona College facilities throughout the county.
Although the measure has sparked some opposition, it has strong support from Pinal's civic, educational and business leaders who view it as a key to a bright future as the county's population explodes. Pinal County simply must be able to provide the educational institutions needed to serve its burgeoning population in the years ahead or prosperity will prove elusive.
Of course, careful planning and orderly phased construction are essential. Voters should approve the bond measure, and also pay close attention to CAC district board elections in years ahead.
