Newt Gingrich was Speaker, Ethics Committee chair and Clinton's loudest critic during MonicaGate, which the "liberal press" tried so very hard to cover up that somehow they missed Gingrich's adultery too. Just search any engine for Carol Bisek and Anne Manning: pro-life, -family and ethics Gingrich impregnated a mistress, paid for her abortion, and served divorce papers to his bedridden then-wife recovering from cancer surgery - Clinton did none of those. Stunning hypocrisy, even for Republicans!

Hey Slabside: here's another one: Clinton never criticized Gingrich's adultery -- or Burton's, or Giuliani's, or even Spitzer's, Edwards's. They're all adulterers, but only the Republicans are hypoicrites. And their hypocrisy was brought out on Congress -- in public -- and cost us years and millions of OUR money to end up with ZERO convictions. Big, BIG difference! That's why Republicans should never hold public office, at any level, of any kind, period.

Dale, If Herman Cain was an acceptional presidential candidate; if he had the wisdom for the highest office as far the economy, foreign policy, health care issues, the constitution, etc. then the fact that he is womanizer probably wouldn't play as loudly. But he is not that acceptional candidate, so yes, he is done. However, in my opinion, I see Karl Rove's playbook in this. Karl loves to test the waters with a false candidate (or false issues) before bringing out the real thing and Cain may have been the tester to see how a womanizer plays. Once we are bored with the womanizer aspect, Newt can move out front and his dalliances don't seem quite as bad, and then they can blame the MSM for their liberal bias for labeling all their candidates as womanizers. The GOP will not allow Cain, Bachman, Santorum, (at one time Palin) to ever be their nominee. I predict the GOP will soon wash its hands of the Tea Party and once again take control of their party. Then Obama needs to watch out, because the old GOP knows how to win elections - Newt is their best bet - he's got lots of experience and is well liked in old Republican ranks, even more so than Romney. The GOP had their little love affair with the Tea Party, but its the next morning and they don't like who they laying next to - woof.

Anyone care to bring Herbert Cain into this discussion? The revelation today of his 13 year long affair with Ms. White from Atlanta, documentation and all, should cook his goose. And goose does taste better than does turkey, provided of course, it's not over done!

Slabside, Is anyone disputing your facts? I think everyone agrees that Clinton rode the ethical and moral line very close and crossed it a few times. However, Mr. Smith's letter is about the hypocrisy of Newt Gingrich during the time of the investigation into Clinton's sexual misconduct. You admit Newt is a hypocrite. Newt is running for president today, Clinton is not - so the comparison is not relevant. It is important to look at how Newt handles the "family values" issues that the GOP loves to embrace with his contradiction of those values. This will come up if he stays the GOP front-runner.

I see the libtards are out in force on this one. Slam the GOP all you want but the Clinton facts above cannot be disputed. THEY ARE FACTS!

Slabside: "Personal malfeasance" is all the witch-hunting GOP could get on Clinton, so they're the main reason for just about all the items on your list. Clinton wouldn't have had to spend ANY money on lawyers or plea-bargain anything if the GOP would simply have minded their own business (MonicaGate was a private family matter) rather than hold up the country's business for all those years. Heck, it was probably their preoccupation with it that prevented them from fighting all the good things Clinton did for this country! You know, like turning Bush Sr.'s deficits into surpluses, only to be turned into deficits by Bush Jr.?

But no, the GOP got the Rutherford Institute, a VERY conservative "think tank" ("Conservative thinking" is, after all, an oxymoron) to fund the "impartial" Ken Starr, who spent years of time and millions of OUR money on MonicaGate, and also FileGate, WhitewaterGate, TravelGate, CastleGrandeGate and all the rest. And the GOP were led by not only Gingrich, who had his mistress's fetus aborted, but also Dan Burton, who had the decency to let HIS mistress bear their love child -- both affairs DURING that time. That's HYPOCRISY, SlabSide, and it typifies the GOP. It's a requirement to join, along with sexism, racism, elitism, stupidity and xenophobia!

And Slabside: how many convictions did Ken Starr get? ZERO. That's right: ZERO convictions. Well, actually there was one: Charles Bakaly, Starr's right-hand man, for leaking information to the press!

One last question, Slabside: who gave the English language the "-Gate" suffix? Why it was REPUBLICAN Richard Nixon, known anti-semite, racist and homophobe, the "imperial President" who told David Frost he was above the law, and one of only two Presidents whose highest administration officials have been CONVICTED of FELONIES and SERVED HARD TIME. The other, I'm sure you know but will never admit it, is REPUBLICAN Ronald Reagan.

See the difference? Convictions: Republicans=yes; Democrats=no. Clear??

Yes and the sleaze Ken Starr who put pornography into the Congressional Record and the Republicans who paid over $7,000,000. 00 in citizen tax dollars to do so. Borrowed tax dollars. It is difficult to believe that Republicans care one whit about “family and ethics”.

But Clinton didn't get us into a completely unnecessary war that killed over 4,000 Americans and cost us over a Trillion dollars. Bill Clinton didn't take us to the brink of economic depression, costing millions of jobs and 8,000 points on the DOW.

He also didn't get his mistress pregnant, pay for her abortion and divorce her cancer-stricken wife. Newt already passed Bill.

"Clinton did none of those. Stunning hypocrisy, even for Republicans!"
Let's have a look see at what 'ol Bill Clinton did do OK?

*The only president ever impeached on grounds of personal malfeasance
*First president sued for sexual harassment.
    *Second president accused of rape**
*Largest criminal plea agreement in an illegal campaign contribution case
*First president to establish a legal defense fund.
*First president to be held in contempt of court
*Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions
*Greatest amount of illegal campaign contributions from abroad
*First president disbarred from the US Supreme Court and a state court

Yes, Newt is a hypocrite for sure but he would need to be elected POTUS and work 24/7/365 to catch up with Bill!

I don't recall any press trying to cover up Monica Lewinski. It was a casual acquaintance of Monica's that leaked the news to the press. Now if you want to talk about cover ups, try JFK and Marilyn. "Happy Birthday, dear Mr. President!" In those days the press did withhold information.
