I’d like to respond to the discussion of SRP purchasing Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s (LADWP) share of the Navajo Generating Station.

The Clean Air Task force found that the Navajo Generating Station annually accounts for $127.8 Million in public health costs, including 16 deaths. These are costs they never have to pay, socializing them onto our insurance premiums and healthcare bills. Now SRP wants to add even more money, $189 million, to prop up a dead technology and purchase energy they admit they don’t even need.

This isn’t what I want my electricity payment to go towards. In the Valley of the Sun, we need to mobilize toward our renewable future of solar energy, through rooftop (photovoltaic), utility scale, and the concentrating solar projects like Solana underway in the desert.
