I was disgusted and offended by Tom Purcell’s article in Friday’s Tribune (Aug. 3).
Imagine what would happen if women regularly went topless in public! How would our society’s view of women change?
I believe in women’s rights — and that if women regularly went topless in public, society’s view of us would slide backwards: from intelligent, valuable beings equal to men, to sexual objects to be gawked at — almost prostitutes. I would not feel safe in a world where this standard was normal.
Pornography is degrading and offensive to women, is addictive, and leads to things such as premarital sex, STDs, unwanted pregnancies — even rape. Purcell is describing pornography! How would children feel about this behavior from women they respect? Wouldn’t the self-esteem of our young girls be damaged or destroyed? How would our young boys grow up viewing women?
Freedom is intended to benefit everyone. This standard would benefit only perverts, not women. This evil standard promotes an immoral lifestyle and a society where women are not respected as men’s equals, which Moira would understand if she truly supported women’s rights, rather than call her acting out for attention “advocating women’s rights.”
In their book “Do Hard Things,” Alex and Brett Harris comment, “Isn’t something wrong when girls are constantly judged on their physical appearance and pressed to become more and more sexually provocative, yet are so rarely expected to develop qualities of character and intellect beneath the surface?”
Something is wrong. I only hope the world hasn’t degenerated to this when I’ve grown up, married, and had children — in that order. I am disappointed that someone would write this, that the newspaper would publish it, that yet another man is trying to tell women what the phrase “women’s rights” should mean, and that I should have to defend my right to be modest!

Our puritanical heritage has long pushed that this is a moral issue. It is not. Why be so uptight about what God gave you. Eve never wore clothes till shame was visited upon her. Rachel is right. I have a great deal of respect for women, but it would vanish quickly if thy went topless in public. I love country music, and my favorite female singer is Carrie Underwood. I also like several, but not all, of Taylor Swift's songs, and I like a few of Leeann RImes' songs. I don't know a whole lot of Rimes' songs, so I can't honestly say that I like them all. But the ones that I know, I like.
And it's not just country music, either. I appreciate the singing voice of Kelly Clarkson. While I cannot say that I like her music, I cannot deny that she is talented. I would be a fool to say that she's not. Though I do like her duets with Reba McEntire and Jason Aldeen.

How can you possibly consider the words "You’ll wonder why you doubted me" a threat?
To be honest, I almost used the words, "You'll wish you hadn't doubted me" but then I figured you'd take that as a threat, even though it was never intended to be one.
NONE of what I've said has EVER intended to be a threat.
And I don't need to back up my claims with facts. It's all a no-brainer.
Like I said, you will learn the truth eventually.

When cowards like mrconservative spew their religious threats, they always make sure to couch them in "nice" words, and responses such as "that wasn't a threat, I am just worried about your soul" or some other related nonsense.
Granted, threatening a nonreligious person with hell is on the same level as a hippie threatening to punch me in my aura...a silly threat, but a threat nonetheless.

My heart tells me it is true. The heart, as I’m sure you know, is the most important organ that any living thing can have. You can’t function without it. You should always trust your heart. I trust mine.
How DARE you sit there at your laptop/computer and say that I threatened you, when you know that I did not? Why can't you accept the fact that ALL things will die? And I'm not just referring to humans. Animals will die as well. That is the natural order of things. It happens!
I am 27 years old. I am betting that I will die by the year 2080, unless I am lucky enough to live until I'm 97, which, if I'm still alive, will take place in 2081.
I won't even mention the year or even decade when you might die, because you'll just do the usual stupid thing and take it as a threat. I hope that you have many more birthdays.

Do you know what "c'est la vie" means?
I didn't make that up, you know. It's French for, "That's life". I wanted to use those specific words for my limerick. It didn't take long for me to come up with the rest.
And no, I didn't use Google Translate, except to double check the spelling. I've known about that phrase for many years.
Here's a few other random facts:
I was born on a Wednesday.
This year, 2012, is 100% identical with 1984, the year I was born. The only thing that is probably not the same are the moon phases. I couldn't tell you when all the moon phases took place that year and I really don't care.
I was born two weeks before Reagan won re-election by a landslide, 525-13, and that's just the electorial votes.
I graduated from high school on Bob Hope's 100th birthday, made even cooler by the fact that he was still alive at the time. I don't know how many people can say that, but I'm guessing that it's not very many, as least when compared with the world's population.
