The fear of losing a cushy job and total control of the House and Senate has resulted in the Dems resurrecting a highly contentious part of illegal immigration reform (i.e., the so-called Dream Act — Development Relief and Education for Alien Minors). This piece of legislation now being pursued by Harry Reid would be attached to a pending defense authorization bill. This bill would give young illegal immigrants a path to citizenship by providing numerous advantages for these illegals to have access to higher education.

Last year the Dems attached the infamous “hate crime” bill to this same defense authorization bill. In addition to the DREAM Act, Dems are also attaching a repeal of the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. Apparently, Reid and the Dems are trying to appease two voting blocs at the same time (Hispanics and homosexuals). Obviously, this is nothing more than a political maneuver to help secure votes for Reid (15 percent of the voting population in Nevada is Hispanic) and the Dems.

However, the DREAM Act is blatantly unfair to legal American children as there are no provisions that provide similar perks that they wish to give to illegals. Illegal immigrants would be allowed to attend universities without having to pay out-of-state tuition while American citizens would not be exempted. The Dream Act simply rewards the children of those who broke our immigration laws.

Neither the Dream Act nor the “don’t ask, don’t tell” legislation needs to be attached to the defense bill. They have nothing to do with that bill.  It’s time for Reid and the Dems to quit playing politics and get on with the job they are entrusted to do.
