Writer Steve Ball’s assertion (Aug. 17, 2012) that the Bush tax cuts actually increased federal revenue proves he is either delusional or a tea party member, or perhaps both.

The first and largest Bush tax cut for the wealthy was signed into law on June 7, 2001. Immediately, rebate checks amounting to over $35 billion went out. As a result, tax revenue for that entire fiscal year, which ended in September, dropped by $10 billion.

The drop continued in 2002 with another $138 billion in lost revenue to the federal government and another $71 billion in 2003.

In that time the Republican-held House and Senate passed huge spending bills and Bush led us into two wars, one of which is still going on. In just a matter of three years Bush and his Republican cronies took the federal coffers from two years of surplus to massive deficits that not only destroyed our economy but still resonate today.

Just the facts, sir, nothing but the facts.

I won't make excuses for anyone, but is sleeping with a subordinant in the Whitehouse while married and then bald face lying to the American people on TV the same as a single man writing for a lurid website?

Where did you get that piece of klunk, silly willy?

Bush43 inherited a recession himself. And he never once, not even once blamed his predessor. Unlike our current crybaby-in-chief, who called Bush "unpatriotic".

And that is balanced by the Republican member of Congress who used to write for a semi-pornographic web site and who said of himself " My moral compass is so broken I can't find the parking lot ".

Bill Clinton is the ONLY President in recent history to leave office with a surplus.

Which Bush the Lesser promptly blew.

Speaking of "trust". Can you believe that the Democrats, at their convention, will have as one of their keynote speakers a confessed liar and accused rapist Bill, Slick Willy, Clinton. LOL

VofReason ... there is a concept called " trust " and unfortunately too many of our Congress people and our allies believed they could < trust > the President of the United States.

    THEY WERE WRONG.

So Dale points out an interesting "theory". President Bush ,who by some commentators accounts is as dumb as a stick, was so sly that he was able to fool a military person with false military intelligence. Evidently, sly enough also to fool nations around the world with false intelligence that he somehow was able to fool them into thinking was theirs. Then, even though a General in the military with high rank and able to do his own cross checking, Powell unwittingly delivered the "false" intelligance to Congress to fool all of them into declaring war. Thankfully, Powell shortly there after was able to shake off the spell and return to his intelligent standing and back the best President that this or any other land could ever hope for. Boy, all makes sense to me.

    Dale,
Again you can use your "facts" and others can use their "facts".

    VoReason,

Granted that Congress was quick on the trigger. But Bush43/Cheney orchestrated a set of huge lies and even coaxed Colin Powell into represent those lies to the UN. When Colin discovered how badly he'd been lied to, he stuck out the remainder of his term, passed the football to Rice and then in 2008 backed Barack Obama.

So blaming Bush43 for Iraq and Afghanistan has merit.

This writer is obviously a level headed centrist. You can always tell becuase they use the Tea Party as a four letter word and blame everything on Republicans. Despite those nettlesome "facts", I do believe I remember in School that only with the will of Congress do we go to War. Oh that's right, the Congress did vote to go to war in both Iraq and Afghanistan. So while certainly President Bush was in favor of the war action, he did not soley take us to war- no? Do tell, 10, 71, 138 billion less? Now that all makes sense in ligght that we spend 1 trillion dollars more than what is taken in in taxes. Guess old Willie is right, spending cut won't have much difference. We just need to get back the 138 billion a year and everything will be fine.

    Edward,
You are also wrong. I would expect your "facts" to include what happened on 9/11 to account for the lost revenue in 2002 and 2003. But then you can use your "facts" and I'll use mine.
