I feel a need to make a commentary on our political situation today, because it has become increasingly evident that we are living in dangerous times. And it appears to me that our political leaders are counting on the general run of Americans as asleep at the wheel, so to speak so they can push through legislation and political actions which are destructive to us as individuals, families and American citizens.
I want to point out some of the political activities which are being considered and formulated by some politicians in Washington, which are deeply contrary to our well-being as American citizens, families, and the population in general. I want to make note of some of the information which has just crossed my desk today.
One which would affect all of us concerns the “Death Tax Hike” which would increase payments Americans would be required to pay, up to 55 percent, at the death of a loved one, which is being set to go into effect in 2013. Yet 2 out of 3 are opposed to such legislation, yet it is being pushed through by the liberals in Washington.
Another regards Social Security payments to seniors upon retirement. Social Security was put into being in the 1930s and Americans have come to rely on it as payments which would be available upon retirement. But this has not been written into law, and could therefore be eliminated in Washington at the stroke of a pen. And there have been rumors of this happening. But if that came to pass it could spell disaster to most of our senior citizens who depend upon it.
Obamacare has been pushed through without congressional approval and is set to leech on American health care services in 2013. But it has been examined and determined to be very expensive, far more expensive than the health care services which we have enjoyed in the past. We as Americans cannot afford that and must not allow it to happen.
These are only some of the Obama “changes” which he had in mind with his liberal cohorts in Washington and have been setting up for our “benefit” — and destruction.
We cannot allow this to happen. We must become alert to what is happening and is being set up for our benefit (?) in Washington. This is deeply dangerous. It is dangerous because I am afraid that we have not been sufficiently aware of what is actually going on. Either we have not recognized it or we have not been concerned enough, or did not realize just what it represents for us and our children and future wellbeing.
This can be deeply dangerous to us. As citizens, families and Americans if we are not sufficiently aware of what is going on against us, it can be to our future destruction. And we must be willing and able to take action against it, for our own happiness and wellbeing and the wellbeing of our country.

I attempted to find something on the internet by David Brooks titled “Does Romney have the traits of a successful president?” The search was empty. Meaning that one should be skeptical that David Brooks wrote an article with that title.
Gertrude Smith is ambiguous about where her words start and words by “David Brook” [sic] end. Usually people use quotation marks when they quote someone else.
For example I doubt very much that David Brooks wrote “These have been the qualities of our great leaders of the past, and to me this bespeaks of the qualities and capabilities of Mitt Romney.”

You can read the article in the Mormon Times any way you want. Those four points, applied by any reader, could apply to Mitt Romney, Barack Obama, Julius Caesar, Osama bin Laden, Abe Lincoln. Whoever one chooses. Doesn’t mean much. It’s no surprise that given the source, Mitt would be the choice of the editor.
Gertrude Smith is referring to an e-mail that has proven to be fictional regarding the “death tax hike.” If she had done a little fact checking she would have known that. In fact it is the “liberals” in Congress and the White House that are trying to extend the Bush tax cuts for those making under $250K.
The Affordable Health Care Act could not have been pushed through without congressional approval. Where does she think Congressional Acts come from? Enough said about that. She simply doesn’t understand how the government works.
Ms Smith is deeply concerned about people not caring or not being aware. I believe that Ms Smith does care, but I don’t think she’s aware; aware of what’s going on or aware of how things work. I think Ms Smith is typical of the new American conservatives who came along with the Tea Party movement and the election of President Obama. They don’t like the way things are going in Washington and realize they’ve been asleep at the wheel since the Clinton administration.

Congress.
How does she think it became law without going through Congress.

Applying Gertrude's principles to those running for president in 2012, I'd have to guess whether Romney would score well or not. It all depends upon which Romney I score and whether that Romney, version 1.0, 2.0 etc was telling me what he really believes. I know that Mitt believes in himself and in what is wants to do. I'm not sure I believe in what he wants to do.
After having read both of Obama's books, and having seen him perform for 3-1/2 years, the known quantity seems more appealing. Let Mitt run again in 2016.

Obviously, Gertrude O. Smith read the article by David Brooks published January 12, 2012, in the New York Times titled “The C.E.O. in Politics”. Where Brooks listed, "The traits that actually correlate with successful presidencies have deeper roots."
First, successful presidents tend to be emotionally secure. – Second, great presidents tend to have superb political judgment. – Third, great leaders have often experienced crushing personal setbacks. – Fourth, great leaders tend to have an instrumental mentality. In the article Brooks did question: “Does Romney’s success in business tell us anything about whether he would be a successful president?”
There was also an article by David Brooks titled “The Wealth Issue” – that was later published, January 19th, in the New York Times. In this article Brooks questioned: “Mitt Romney is a rich man, but is Mitt Romney’s character formed by his wealth? Is Romney a spoiled, cosseted character? Has he been corrupted by ease and luxury? Romney’s salient quality is not wealth. Where did this persistence come from?”
