After many weeks of interviewing candidates, pouring over bios and examining track records, the East Valley Tribune Editorial Board has come up with its recommendations for the 2010 Election.

It was a long and thoughtful process — and one we haven’t undertaken in quite some time. Under new ownership, the Tribune now strives for an independent voice on its editorial pages, offering views from both sides of the aisle. We believe our endorsements reflect that philosophy as well. You’ll find a variety of candidates on our list, as we looked more at the individuals, their beliefs and their effectiveness in representing their constituency rather than the political ideology they represent.

Please use our endorsements as one of your tools heading into the voting both. But we also encourage you to look at other sources of information such as the candidates’ websites, their personal profiles on the AZ Unplugged page of our website and sites like the Morrison Institute at ASU or the Eight Arizona PBS  “Horizon” debates.

CR4Pres - This claim by Horne has already been proven to be false. The Cronkite News Service has debunked this claim and so has the Republic's AZ Fact Check.

As for SB1070, Rotellini said it wouldn't secure the border (it won't) and didn't go far enough to solve the problem (it didn't).

How can you trust an Attorney General who can't even recognize the truth during a campaign?

foxyrox... are you serious?? What is she tough on? Rotellini has never tried a criminal case, she changes her position depending on the audience, and if you are against SB1070, you may want to clarify what her position is. The fact that she is endorsed by both parties just shows she tells people what they want to hear. She is weak minded and won't stand for anything. AZ needs someone truly tough that will take a stand against the big dogs... not just act like a scraping dog with no teeth.

Particularly disturbing is the Tribune's endorsement of Prop 420, Mesa's Stadium give-away to a cry-baby Chicago billionaire.

Do you suppose that the Tribune's endorsement could have been influenced but all the Cubs advertising? Or those pages and pages of City of Mesa "Public Notices" that are propping up this failing rag of a paper? If the City of Mesa pulled those ads, the Tribune would be bankrupt in a month.

We know the price of an election in this town. Sadly it's even pretty cheap.

These endorsement are a perfect example of why the Tribune has ceased to be relevant. So many people have already turned in their Early Voting ballots, that any recommendations now simply fall on deaf ears.

I'm a conservative, but I LOVE Felicia Rotellini!!! She's tough, she's smart, and she doesn't just do what her party tells her! She will get my vote for sure!!!

Your overlooking despicable behavior is both inexcusable and cowardly. As Edmund Burke wrote, "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

    Thanks for doing nothing.

Objectivity in Tribune articles is obviously dead. I honestly can't believe you don't support legalizing marijuana, but on the other hand are complaining about the federal deficit. You guys really need to think about what the hell you stand for before you make these decisions, because the hypocrisy is frightening. Also you need to stop using outdated information and statistics (marijuana is a gateway drug...hahahahahahaha. I haven't heard that outdated argument since the 80's). Some of the endorsements are also a joke. "Russel Pearce has basically failed at doing anything except support his far right ideolgy, but who the hell cares, lets give him another shot." This is completely unacceptable. The only good review I saw was of the Treasurer and Secretary of State races. Regardless cancel my subscription, I'm getting the hell out of dodge.
