I am appalled by the recently passed HR 1540 sponsored by Levin and McCain which legalizes indefinite detention of U.S. citizens by the military. This legislation will effectively overturn the Bill of Rights and will eliminate the right of due process we have as United States citizens. This law states that any “belligerent” acts can require indefinite detention. The language is written to be so vague that it could apply to Occupy Wall Street or tea partiers. This is especially troublesome because we have been told that Osama Bin Laden is dead and his network effectively destroyed. Furthermore, this law also allows for the detention as well as rendition of U.S. citizens to other countries. This is completely against what we stand for as Americans and permanently destroys any rule of law. Recall efforts are underway and need to continue to be taken for all congressmen who voted for this legislation.
