GOP only cares about pleasing ALEC
On Dec. 16, Gov. Jan Brewer stated she wanted to use millions of Arizona tax payer dollars in the budget surplus and “expand the Office of Tourism”. She further stated, “It will lead Arizona’s tourism industry into emerging visitor markets such as China, South Korea and Brazil.”
Instead of using the hundreds of millions of dollars to fund the cuts she made to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) she decided to fund an advertising campaign in other countries.
First of all Governor, why would anyone foreigner want to visit Phoenix when you have the most investigated Sheriff in the country harassing immigrants? Why would they want to subject themselves and their families to your illegal immigration policies?
Second, why aren’t you helping the most needful people of this state first? You could have taken the money and invested in our own people, but you choose another path. You could have used the surplus to fund education or to build our state’s infrastructure, but you decided to fund an advertising campaign to lure people into Sheriff Arpaio’s web of harassment.
Earlier this year House and Senate Republicans voted to increase the tax rate of the lowest income earners of this state by 20,000 percent, reduce the millionaires taxes by 50 percent, give large corporations a $538 million tax break, and at the same time cut funding for AHCCCS and education. Where are the priorities of the Republicans who control the super majority? By their own records, the people of Arizona are not their priority.
Additionally in 2011, these same Republicans voted to end the tax exemption for active duty military, and they voted to end the Veteran’s $2,500 tax credit. The priorities of state Republicans are not the people nor our military heroes, but the interests of the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).
