I just read that the city of Mesa is going to doling out millions of dollars in corporate welfare to bring three Christian universities to the city of Mesa.

Just what part of Article 2 Section 12 of the Arizona Constitution don’t they understand? It says: No public money or property shall be appropriated for or applied to any religious worship, exercise, or instruction, or to the of any religious establishment.

I guess the members of the Mesa City Council consider themselves royal rulers who are above the law!

You're absoloutely correct Mike. The Mesa Mayor and Counsil have routinely acted outside of the law, simply because they adhere to the religious and political standards of the Mormon Church to which a majority are associated with. When the Utah Compact was adopted by the Mormon church in Utah,l that is to allow illegal aliens a form of Church and State form of amnesty, it was also introduced in Arizona as the Arizona Accord and the Mesa City Council established a committee, with significant influence by La Raza and Valley latino groups for the purpose of adopting the premise that illegal aliens are "citizens" too, and thus, they should be afforded "sanctuary."

By affording religious based organizations tax advantages not approved by the people and opposed by current established law, as well as the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, the Members of the council who have proposed this "end run" around the law need to be reminded that it is not their money that they are spending illegally, it is the tax payers money.

Amusingly, the publisher and editor of the East Valley Tribune Terry Horne recently wrote a column saying, “Three in four Americans in an Associated Press poll said they believe the U.S. Constitution is an enduring document that has relevance. If you believe the Constitution is the reason for the freedom and prosperity in America then that is good news. I do believe that.

Yet most Americans are pretty ignorant of the contents of the Constitution. . . .”

Mr Horne goes on to give examples that demonstrate how citizens do not understand the constitution. And yet, at the top of the editorial ‘Our view: Arrival of colleges could transform downtown Mesa’ I see no mention of the constitutionality of taxpayer money being used for the establishment of religious schools in downtown Mesa.

cerulean: understanding the constitution is one thing. interpreting the constitution is a whole other ball game. it is usually broken down into two camps. those who go by the letter of the law and those who by the spirit of the law. and after roughly 240 years, no one has been able to channel the framers of the constitution...

What Arizona needs is for some lawyers to step up and make themselves available to sue cities / states / public officials for wrongdoing PRO BONO.

They all want thousands of dollars up front. Most won't even touch a case against officials because of fear of retribution.

We've all seen what happened to Thomas for suing officials.

Remember, the judge ( another member of the inner circle? ) threw out the charges on technicalities --- THE CHARGES WERE NEVER TRIED. They pretend they were found innocent but THEY NEVER WENT TO TRIAL.

There is no doubt in my mind that the people Thomas and Arpaio went after are guilty as a child molester ... but they got away and then came back after Thomas and ruined his life and they are trying to get Arpaio.

But, without lawyers willing to sue, the public can do very little.

150 years ago they would have simply hung the offenders.

Can't do that today --- justice has to go through lawyers and judges.
