One person was injured Sunday after a vehicle hit a fire hydrant in Gilbert.

Queen Creek Road was closed east- and westbound between Recker and Higley roads because of flooding, according to the Gilbert Police Department. It was reopened about 3:15 p.m. Sunday with one lane each way.

The driver was taken to Maricopa County Medical Center with serious injuries. Alcohol may have been a factor, police said.

No further information is known at this time.
