PHOENIX - Doctors say they've performed a successful surgery on newborn conjoined twins in Phoenix.

The surgery performed at Phoenix Children's Hospital on Saturday was to create a colostomy. Surgeons also implanted a device allowing infusions.

A team lead by Dr. Stuart Lacey did the surgery, which went off without complications.

The twins were born by Caesarean section to 20-year-old Kingman resident Ashley Frank on Wednesday. They're joined at the abdomen and share a liver. Together, they weigh 8 pounds, 10 ounces.
