Mesa police discovered a slain body around 3 p.m. Monday at The Casitas at Park Centre, 10001 N. Pasadena, after a suspect in a police chase confessed to the killing.
The suspect, whose name was not released, was apprehended by Mesa police and Department of Public safety officers between Superior and Globe on the U.S. 60, said Steven Berry, spokesman for the Mesa Police Department.
Police started a chase on the U.S. 60 near Greenfield Road after spotting a vehicle heading east on the westbound portion of the highway.
The chase ended miles later between Superior and Globe. Mesa police said the suspect slashed himself with a knife before being subdued by officers.
His confession during the traffic stop led Mesa police to the town home complex near Brown Road and Mesa Drive, where they discovered the body. No one else was home when officers arrived.
Police had taped off portions of the peaceful looking complex as Mesa detectives arrived on the scene.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen police in all the years I’ve been here,” said Curt Bailey, 67, a homeowner. “I can’t believe this happened here.”
The suspect was taken to a hospital for medical treatment. The name of the victim was not released.
