The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has extended an ozone health watch into Thursday.

Ozone is a pollutant created when other pollutants in the air – such as combustion – are heated.

The elderly and the young – as well as those susceptible to respiratory illness – may want to limit time outdoors. Ozone can aggravate existing respiratory conditions.

Parts of the East Valley may reach the upper moderate range of the air quality index, ADEQ reports. A health watch is issued when levels may approach federal standards.
