Chandler will install a 17-year department veteran as its new fire chief, officials announced Tuesday.

Assistant Chief Jeff Clark, 40, will begin his new duties Wednesday and earn a salary of $144,109 a year.

Former fire chief Jim Roxburgh retired in April.

Jane Poston, city spokeswoman, said the city hired a professional recruiting firm to find candidates for the position.

She said six candidates – two of them with the Chandler Fire Department – vied for the job.
