Tim Fountain and Lucas Blackburn were named Tuesday as new assistant principals for the upcoming school year in the Gilbert Unified School District.

Fountain is moving back to Mesquite Junior High as its new assistant principal.

He is dean of students at Gilbert High School, but spent several years at Mesquite Junior High as a social studies, newspaper and yearbook teacher. He was also a coach and social studies department chair at Mesquite, before moving to the high school.

He has worked in the Gilbert district for eight years and lives in Chandler.

Blackburn will be the first assistant principal for the Gilbert Learning Center, the district’s alternative 7th to 12th grade education school in Mesa. The center previously had only dean of students.

He is now an 8th grade science teacher at Greenfield Junior High and has worked in the district for two years. He lives in Chandler with his wife and 2-month old son.

Gilbert’s school board approved the appointments at Tuesday’s school board meeting.
