A day of stepped-up patrols by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on Friday in north-central Phoenix led to the arrests of 34 people, according to the agency.
Deputies arrest 13 in migrant patrols
The sheriff’s office targeted the area near 32nd Street and Thomas Road, where immigration activists from different sides of the spectrum have clashed in the past several months.
Of the 34 arrests, 24 were suspected illegal immigrants and 10 were U.S. citizens, according to the sheriff’s office. Nine of the suspected illegal immigrants were also suspected of other crimes, according to the agency. All of the U.S. citizens were picked up on suspicion of similar crimes.
