Not long ago, life was looking pretty scary for Bleeker. The border collie mix was found roaming the streets with another dog, and neighbors in the area believe the pair were left behind in the backyard of a foreclosed home. If they hadn't managed to escape, they might have perished there.
Now Bleeker's got a temporary place to stay at Gilbert's Friends for Life animal shelter, and he doesn't have to worry about finding his next meal or being left behind. But this one-time family dog is in serious need of a new family.
Volunteers who work with Bleeker say he's a great all-around family dog who likes to be with children and other dogs. He's equally fond of playful romps, on-leash walks and good old-fashioned snuggling. Bleeker is thought to be about 3 years old, and he weighs around 60 pounds. He has silky black fur and golden eyes.
Rescuers don't yet know how he feels about cats.
Bleeker is up to date on vaccinations, and he's neutered and microchipped. If you'd like to know more about him or other pets in need of homes, contact Friends for Life Animal Sanctuary and Rescue at (480) 497-8296 or www.azfriends.org.
